Wayyyy better for you than melatonin (which is fake news anyway).""Bipolar, ADHD mostly inattentive. I don't dare to use benzos due to addiction problems in my family. It knocks me out for a good 5 hours tops, I wake up on and off throughout the night. I want new medicine""Been on Clonidine for 2 years. Clonidine almost always puts me to sleep at dosages 37,5mg to 75mg. Only problem is that I wake up too early sometimes. Sometimes it takes 30 mins to activate, other times it take 5. I went 14 years without getting a proper nights sleep. Wish I had access to a more long-acting formula.""My daughter was using melatonin for many years to help her fall asleep due to ADHD issues. But recently it stopped working and she was up for three nights straight. Her doctor prescribed clonodine and it has been wonderful. Q My 13-year-old's doctor wants to start him on clonidine for sleep. He was on melatonin for three years. As a parent I have some concerns. Not sure about the off-label uses of clonidine. ADHD, sleep apnea, smoking cessation, Tourette's syndrome, and withdrawal from alcohol and narcotics. Clonidine is an effective alternative to more dangerous medications for a. to prescribe clonidine as a sleep aid and antianxiety medication.

I have a 7 year old with ADHD, and sleep has always been a challenge. On a normal night (with no sleep meds) he lays down around 9p and doesn't fall asleep until 10 or even p. Anyway, we are trying a very small amount of Clonidine to start (1/2 of .1mg). Last question, it looks like some people took this type of medicine in place of a stimulant during the day. I ask because Concerta seems to be really changing his personality while on it (very serious, anxious, not his happy self) and it causes eye blinking (which he doesn't have off medicine). The doctor said to give it to him around p and then institute a strict bedtime of 8p. Or, did some people need to take it right when they laid down because it worked that quickly. He has mostly hyperactivity type ADD, so maybe this would be something we should try in lieu of stimulants? If a medication is altering his personality than he may need to try something else or a lower dose. Of course I am not a doctor, I am only making a suggestion. He thinks that this will help my son fall asleep around , and get the 11 hours that it really seems that he needs. Medication should not alter one's personality that much. My daughter has ADHD and takes Adderall during the day and has trouble sleeping at night. If I am correct, Clonidine is supposed to help with the eye blinking (also referred to as ticks.) Clonidine is used for several reasons other then tics. Bedtime is but she's never asleep until 11 at the earliest. had prescribed clonidine for sleep and it was giving her really bad nightmares. I would definately give it an hour before bedtime and not 30 minutes before. She would wake up in the morning and be very upset and not want to take the meds at night. By the time she is done with all of that and a story she is sleepy and ready for bed. My daughter has ADHD and takes Adderall during the day and has trouble sleeping at night. It did work, as far as getting her to sleep, but not worth the upset it was causing her dream wise. Bedtime is but she's never asleep until 11 at the earliest. had prescribed clonidine for sleep and it was giving her really bad nightmares. If you have it, you may experience problems falling asleep, staying asleep, or feeling unrested during the day. In your search for relief, you may have heard that clonidine can help treat insomnia. Clonidine is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It’s also used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Still, one of the side effects of clonidine is sedation, or sleepiness. Results from some clinical trials suggest that clonidine may be helpful in treating insomnia in children with ADHD, but these results are limited. Here’s what you should know about using clonidine to help you sleep. Limited studies have tested clonidine as a treatment for insomnia, and they’ve only looked at this use in children with ADHD. However, according to a meta analysis, initial studies indicated that clonidine may have helped these children fall asleep more quickly and wake up less during the night.

Clonidine is a prescription medication commonly used to treat high blood pressure. It is also used in combination with other drugs to treat conditions like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to Medline Plus. Other uses for the drug include treatment for Tourette’s syndrome, anxiety issues, painful menstruation symptoms, and addiction-related withdrawal. It is often abused in conjunction with other drugs, such as methadone, heroin, and prescription painkillers, according to Everyday Health. The consumption of clonidine results in a decreased heart rate, one of the reasons it is so effective in treating high blood pressure. It relaxes an individual’s blood vessels, creating more room for easier blood flow. Clonidine can also interact with the section of the brain that controls impulsiveness, hence the correlation with ADHD. Clonidine may also have a sedative effect on a person in the short-term, which could lead to difficulty operating a motor vehicle or other machinery. I was laying on the floor, curled up into a ball, ugly, crying, convinced life was never going to get better. I was fearful of leaving my own apartment, convinced the giant knot of angst that had taken up permanent residence in my stomach, would permanently weigh me down and keep me on the floor. In 2014 my doctor prescribed me a dose of 100 mg of Zoloft once a day to alleviate the symptoms of depression and anxiety, some of which were genetic, and some of which were brought on by a very bad boss and a terrible breakup. Every five minutes or so it would travel towards the back of my neck and then lodge itself in my throat and I would wail. Did I mention I thought absolutely everything was completely awful back then? That things were never ever, ever going to get better? Slowly, but surely, the pills worked their magic and slowly, but surely, I began to feel like a human being again. That each day would be darker than the next, until finally everything was pitch black? I no longer cried myself to sleep or woke up in the morning convinced this day would suck worse than the day before. I began eating better and working out, meditating, doing yoga, and going to therapy. I didn't call up my ex-boyfriend and accuse him of ruining my life or stare blankly at my computer at work bemoaning every decision I had ever made. Then I got the job of my dreams, met my husband, and moved to California. I'm not all "ZOLOFT—It will get you a husband and a tan." But it helped. It was the Band-Aid I needed at the time and a bridge to turn me from a sad sack laying on the floor of my Manhattan apartment into the woman I wanted to be with the life I deserved to be living.
